I recently completed this very cute (and a bit snarky!) cross stitch project for a friend! I love giving framed cross stitch projects as gifts because they’re so easy to customize for friends and family based on their interests, style, and favorite colors.

Find the pattern here on Etsy from GrandmaGirlDesigns!

The Pattern

This pattern by GrandmaGirlDesigns works up quickly and was very easy to follow with clear instructions. She also includes basic how-to instruction that explain cross stitch in general, terminology, types of stitches, tools of the trade, and how to present your finished piece in an embroidery hoop, ready for presentation. These very thorough instructions make this pattern perfect as a first project for a beginner who is new to cross stitch!

If you’re a visual learner and prefer video, this is a great one that shows how to get started and form nice, neat stitches.

This piece is going to a friend with a sort of comfy, cottage goth style. I especially love the little paw print details in the border! I wanted to make sure it would blend well with her existing decor, so I chose to invert the colors of the original pattern and used a beautiful pale pearl gray thread on black Aida cloth. The frame is a cute little one that came from a set that another friend gave me…I love to recycle, paint or otherwise decorate frames to coordinate them with different craft projects or photos, and this one seemed just right for a cottage style to me!

This looks so cute on our blue wall with the vintage Halloween kittie decor, I think I might have to make another to keep for myself!
