As soon as the snowflakes start to fall, my son asks for hot chocolate. 🙂 It is perfect for the weather and very nostalgic for me – my grandmother would make huge jars of hot chocolate mix when I was little. It was the best warm treat to have after playing in the snow!

The Best Hot Chocolate Mix

Print Recipe
Servings 20

Ingredients

  • 3 cups powdered milk
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup chocolate chips pulsed in a food processor until very finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon cornstartch
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • mini marshmallows optional, but why wouldn't you?! 🙂

Instructions

  • Measure ingredients into a large mixing bowl and whisk thoroughly. For an extra smooth mix, sift all ingredients except for the chocolate chips; whisk in the chocolate chips after. Use approximately 2 generous tablespoons of mix per mug of hot water, stirring well. Store in a sealed container.
Making hot chocolate mix yourself and storing in a recycled jar helps eliminate some of the waste that comes with using single serving packets of mix.
Don’t hurry, be happy – the best part of snow days! My son received this adorable sloth mug as part of a white elephant gift exchange with our game night families 🙂
From a previous winter camping trip – isn’t it beautiful?!
