In keeping with tradition, I bring you this year’s list of fun and spooky podcasts for autumn and beyond! If you missed the previous lists, you can visit the 2021 and 2020 editions.
I’m always on the lookout for eerie stories, creepy encounters, and things that go bump in the night no matter what time of the year it is, but of course as we get closer to Halloween, the need for spooky stories to go along with your pumpkin spice and comfy sweaters becomes much more serious! And in a strange way, I find these stories to be comforting and a nice break from the stressful news cycle that we’re perpetually in. Is there life after death? Are we alone in the universe? I’m not sure, but it is really fun to wonder about. Maybe we’ll get answers one day. 🙂
Here are the creepy finds for 2022
- Rituals: This podcast from the creators of And That’s Why We Drink covers mysterious and mystical practices that have been performed throughout history and in various cultures. The hosts discuss topics such as witchcraft, ancient rites, superstitions, and the hidden meanings behind different ceremonial practices. This show is particularly appealing to those interested in the occult, folklore, and esoteric traditions.
- Art Bell Tape Vault: Art Bell was the original voice of paranormal and fringe radio from the early 90s on, and this collection contains hundreds of episodes from shows like Coast to Coast AM and Midnight in the Desert. Before his death, Art was famous for covering UFOs, government conspiracies, the paranormal, cryptids, time travel, and other unexplained phenomena through unscreened calls from listeners and expert (sometimes “expert”) interviews. Skip the occasional political talk, but don’t miss the Ghost to Ghost Halloween specials!
- Mothboys: I discovered the Mothboys at my recent trip to the Mothman Festival! Hosted by a group of friends, the show covers cryptids like Bigfoot, Mothman, and other legendary creatures, as well as odd events, urban legends, and unexplained mysteries. This show appeals to those who are into cryptid lore and the paranormal who also appreciate a fun and humorous take on these topics.
- National Park After Dark: As someone who is into hiking, camping, and the outdoors in general, this podcast caught my eye as it explores the mysterious stories connected to national parks and wilderness areas. The hosts cover topics like strange disappearances, true crime cases, paranormal encounters, and bizarre happenings that have occurred in remote and wild locations. Episodes blend history, nature, and the supernatural as the podcast sheds light on the darker side of the outdoors.
- Euphomet: Euphomet takes an interesting view on paranormal and spiritual experiences. Jim Perry focuses on interviews with people who have had profound supernatural experiences with a reflective and philosophical tone. This is a great show for people who are into the deeper, more personal aspects of the paranormal.
